About the role

This section tells you all you need to know about the position and its responsibilities, outlining everything we hope to see in a successful candidate.

All the details

We’re looking for a subject matter expert in accuracy and loss to help shape the future of how we protect value and drive efficiency across our Food business. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in improving stock accuracy and reducing loss by building strong relationships with trading, logistics, supply chain and retail operations, while working collaboratively with finance, data, technology and asset protection teams.

You’ll be at the heart of initiatives that make a tangible difference to our colleagues, customers and business performance, ensuring we stay ahead of industry developments and maximise opportunities to enhance M&S capabilities. If you’re an experienced business partner who thrives on collaboration, problem-solving and delivering results, we’d love to hear from you.

Due to high interest, this role may close earlier than advertised. We recommend applying as soon as possible.

What you’ll do:
Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Acting as the subject matter expert in accuracy and loss, identifying how processes and changes impact performance.
  • Building strong cross-functional relationships across food trading, logistics, supply chain, retail operations and the wider asset protection team.
  • Using data and colleague/customer insights to identify pain points, spot trends and develop practical solutions to improve accuracy and reduce loss.
  • Partnering with finance, technology and stock integrity colleagues to shape roadmaps, run retail trials and deliver compelling business cases.
  • Staying close to industry best practice and sharing insights that enhance M&S’s approach to accuracy and loss management.

Who you are:
Your skills and experience will include:

  • A strong reputation for building collaborative, trusted relationships across functions and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Proven experience of leading trials, initiatives and business cases from scoping through to delivery.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and prioritise effectively.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end food stock management processes and industry best practice in accuracy and loss (desirable).

What’s in it for you?
Working at M&S means being part of something bigger - helping to deliver quality, value and service to millions of customers every day. We’re inclusive, fast-moving and always evolving, with a strong sense of purpose and a focus on doing the right thing.

Here are just a few of the benefits that make working here even more rewarding:

  • 20% colleague discount on all M&S products and many third-party brands for you and someone in your household, available once you’ve completed your probation
  • Competitive holiday allowance with the option to buy more
  • Discretionary bonus schemes linked to your performance and ours
  • Strong pension and life assurance to help plan for the future
  • Tailored induction and training to support your development from day one
  • Exclusive perks and savings through our M&S Choices portal
  • Market-leading family policies, including parental, adoption and neonatal leave
  • 24/7 wellbeing support, including virtual GP access and mental health services
  • One paid volunteer day a year to support a cause that matters to you
