Strength in strategy: Lycrecia’s journey at M&S
“Logistics thrives on diversity of skills, whether you’re an analytical thinker, a natural problem solver, or a brilliant communicator, there’s a place for you.” As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, we sat down with Lycrecia, Senior Project Manager in Supply Chain & Logistics, to learn more about her career journey, the challenges she’s overcome, and why she thinks M&S is a fantastic place for women to build their career.
Tell us more about your role.
I lead business-critical projects that optimise how our Clothing & Home products move from supplier to store seamlessly. Imagine being the Conductor of an orchestra where the instruments are trucks, warehouses, technology systems, and a network of incredibly talented people. My role as a Senior Project Manager is to ensure they all play in harmony, delivering efficiency, innovation, and, most importantly, results.
Most people see a dress, a coat, or a pair of shoes and think only about how it looks or feels, but I see something bigger: a carefully orchestrated supply chain working behind the scenes to get the highest quality products to our customers. From the initial product design to sourcing materials, manufacturing, quality control, being shipped to a warehouse, and finally reaching a store or my front door, it’s a meticulously planned journey. Every time I hold one of our new products in my hands, I feel a sense of pride knowing I’ve played a part in making that journey smoother, faster, and more efficient.
Why did you choose a career in Logistics?
I always imagined myself chasing storms and predicting weather patterns as a Meteorologist after university, but I unexpectedly fell into a Logistics career. It all started when I was offered the chance to earn my PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification and step into a role as a Junior Project Manager in Logistics. What began as an opportunity quickly became a passion for me.
I loved the fast-paced, ever-changing nature of the industry. Logistics, much like meteorology, is about anticipating change, reading the signs, and staying one step ahead. Whether you’re tracking a cold front or a shipment of dresses, the principles are the same: predict the patterns, manage the risks, and make sure the forecast works in your favour.
It turns out my career shift wasn’t so different after all. Both fields require agility, precision, and a knack for problem-solving. And just like the weather, no two days in Logistics are ever the same!
What advice would you give to other women who are interested in pursuing a career in Supply Chain & Logistics?
“Find people who inspire you, who challenge you, and who believe in your potential. Seek out those who are passionate and absorb their knowledge like a sponge. Pitch your ideas to them, listen to their feedback and use it to grow.”
The people you surround yourself with will shape your career. Find those who give you energy, who push you to be better, and who celebrate your wins as if they were their own. Because when you have the right people in your corner, you can achieve more than you ever imagined.
What makes M&S a special place to work?
M&S has always been a brand I’ve admired. Long before I joined the business, I was a customer who valued the reliability and excellence M&S stands for.
It’s important to me that I work for a company whose values align with my own, and for me, that means trust, quality, and a commitment to excellence. I also thrive in high-performing teams, where my colleagues push the boundaries and continuously strive for better. M&S embodies that mindset, which made it the perfect place for me to grow, contribute, and truly feel at home.
“What I love most about M&S is the incredible people I get to work with every day. We’re a team that thinks big, challenges the status quo, and always has each other’s backs. It’s that perfect blend of innovation and kindness that makes M&S such a special place to be.”
One of the things that truly sets M&S apart is our commitment to understanding the full picture which is why we spend seven days a year working in stores alongside our retail colleagues. It’s not just a great learning experience; it’s a chance to see first-hand how supply chain challenges impact stores and, more importantly, how we can create smarter, more effective solutions.
