Department vision Support Centre
"Our Support Centre colleagues work together to build the M&S of the future – making it an even more amazing place to work than it is today. We create the M&S magic using a people-first and digital-centric approach to deliver business results and objectives. Retail is fast-moving so we continue to adapt to the changing consumer landscape, the macro trends that shape the world of work and the needs of our colleagues. I joined M&S through a graduate scheme and have loved the variety. We’re building a place to work that feels special and remarkable with people and their wellbeing at the heart of what we do."

People HR Graduate Programme 2023
Transformation legends start here
Do you want to work in business transformation? Empower people to perform at their best? And sharpen every business you work alongside? Then apply for our People Graduate Programme – because it’s never too soon to think about your future legacy.
This programme will give you a brilliant overview of what it’s like working in the People team. Our remarkable, diverse people make M&S. They’re right at the heart of our business, pushing us to evolve and grow. You’ll immerse yourself in our People Strategy, understand how it contributes to the wider business and ultimately empower our people to excel. You’ll also help us to realise our bold ambitions – including trailblazing to become the best place to work in retail.
Over 24 months, take advantage of our people-driven experience as an historic retailer. Getting as close to the action as possible, you’ll spend time in our stores, work alongside leaders, and even take on rotations within our Support Centre and Centre of Expertise. This is the perfect opportunity to help us shape the fast-moving world of e-commerce, strengthen our business by encouraging the growth of our talent pipelines, and discover both generalist and specialist career paths. The possibilities within our People team are truly limitless.
Join us and work across all kinds of functions and locations, right across the business, and spend time getting to know the ins and outs of what we do. Whatever you find yourself doing day to day, you’ll be working to build a legendary company that puts people’s wellbeing at its heart.
You don’t need a specific degree or background to join the People team, but it’s helpful if you’re the curious, analytical type. And we’ll support your CIPD qualification alongside your programme, via an apprenticeship route.

We are committed to an active Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunities Policy, which starts with our recruitment and selection process, and we are happy to talk flexible working.
If you consider yourself to require reasonable adjustments to any part of our recruitment process, we invite you to share those requirements with us when completing your application. We will make every effort to ensure your needs are met to provide a fair and transparent process of assessment.
Legends seize the chance to use their strengths every day. That’s why we’re looking to see what makes you tick through the following assessment stages:
- An online assessment taking approximately 45 minutes, focusing on your individual strengths
- An on-demand video interview
- A final assessment stage; either at an assessment centre attended alongside peers, or a final interview
We’ll support anyone who requires reasonable adjustments to their application process – just let us know before the assessments start.
Some technical programmes may ask you to complete a short numerical reasoning test or a coding assessment. And most of our assessments are untimed, but we’ll make you aware of any timed elements in advance.
As a tip, avoid overly rehearsing your responses, especially for your video interview. We want you to be bold, be different, and be you.
