Merchandise Admin Assistant
Harness the power of high-performance business
Our merchandising colleagues are doing more than you can possibly imagine to transform M&S. You’ll be working and collaborating as part of a wider team to deliver for the customer. A career in merchandising is about planning our future success in sales, profit and customer satisfaction by making sure the availability of our products is at its best. It’s knowing the global multichannel marketplace to maximise opportunity. And it’s learning from data to harness bold decisions, achieve business goals and market share growth in retail.
You’ll begin by supporting our Merchandiser and Assistant Merchandiser, learning the technologies of this complex and exciting trade. Each day, you’ll throw yourself into our sales figures, interpret data and help us separate the best-sellers. As you progress in your career, the data you interpret will influence the different teams you reach out to – for example, pointing out to Marketing which products there should be more focus on. And that’s just one of many ways you’ll help us build an M&S that’s in tune with what our customers want.
Inventing and investing in technology is how we’ll become the most digitally impressive retailer out there. To build a more effective business, with even happier customers, we need to look at sales, stock, commitment, intake, markdown and margin in entirely new ways. If you can pick up technical skills and have a head for numbers and Excel spreadsheets, everything else will fall into place. Especially if you can extract new meaning from data – because you’ll be working on reports and mapping out the lessons we’ve learned to sway multi-million-pound decisions. So, you have to be on the ball with every update, take the initiative to present us with your own ideas, and prove to us you’re going to get ahead by giving us your commercial perspective.
