Department vision Support Centre

"Our Support Centre colleagues work together to build the M&S of the future – making it an even more amazing place to work than it is today. We create the M&S magic using a people-first and digital-centric approach to deliver business results and objectives. Retail is fast-moving so we continue to adapt to the changing consumer landscape, the macro trends that shape the world of work and the needs of our colleagues. I joined M&S through a graduate scheme and have loved the variety. We’re building a place to work that feels special and remarkable with people and their wellbeing at the heart of what we do."

Finance Internship Programme 2023

Tomorrow’s finance legends learn from the best

Do you want to learn how to transform a business? Want to understand how we make data-driven decisions? If your future is in finance, then apply for our internship. Because it’s never too soon to think about your future legacy.

On this ten-week programme, you’ll join one of our technical, commercial or operational areas to do hands-on work and gain insights into what drives a high-performance retail business like ours. You’ll be part of a team who partner, engage and collaborate internationally, elevating our operations and transforming M&S into a leaner, more effective industry leader.

Gain an insight into what drives our commercial performance and get to grips with our tools, processes and governance which all enable the business to make decisions through data. You’ll also find out how we use our digital capabilities to evolve our business. Explore what it takes to adapt to an ever-changing consumer landscape and keep up with the incredible pace at which our business moves.

While you’ll be working in a particular area, we’ll make sure you get to see how the other parts of Finance team work and how we contribute to the wider business. We’ll also give you an insight into M&S as a whole. As such, this is a unique opportunity to work with people right across our business, while actively helping us make the best possible financial decisions.

Legends are made, not born – so we’ll invest in your soft skills development and help you understand a bit more about yourself. You’ll come away with greater skills, knowledge and insight into what a career in Finance could look like once you graduate.

You don’t need a specific degree to apply for this programme, but you’ll need a passion for retail, a taste for numbers and an interest in business.

Day in the life

Busola, Graduate

At M&S, the breadth of our roles is as diverse as our people. But we all share the same vision: to be future focussed, digital first and deliver remarkable experiences for our customers. In the Support Office a wide range of skills and roles come together to deliver for the business. Ever wanted to take a peek behind the scenes? Watch our video to see a typical day.

Application Guidance

Legends seize the chance to use their strengths every day. That’s why we’re looking to see what makes you tick through the following assessment stages:

  1. An online assessment taking approximately 45 minutes, focusing on your individual strengths
  2. An on-demand video interview
  3. A final assessment stage; either at an assessment centre attended alongside peers, or a final interview

We’ll support anyone who requires reasonable adjustments to their application process – just let us know before the assessments start.

Some technical programmes may ask you to complete a short numerical reasoning test or a coding assessment. And most of our assessments are untimed, but we’ll make you aware of any timed elements in advance.

As a tip, avoid overly rehearsing your responses, especially for your video interview. We want you to be bold, be different, and be you.
