M&S is going through an exciting period of transformation and change! Due to an internal move being undertaken in line with our Talent Programme we are now recruiting for a Senior Operations Manager to join the team based at our East Midlands Distribution Centre located in Castle Donington. At 900,000 square feet and split into 3 chambers with a mix of automated and manual operations delivering around two million single items a week during peak, our Castle Donington DC provides invaluable support to both our online and retail operations We’ve invested millions - But it’s still our people that make the real difference!

In this role you will support the Head of Ecom Logistics and work closely with other peers in the wider Senior Leadership Team in driving through both the vision and the culture within our site so that we can continue to provide the service levels our Customers expect and deserve.

You will have a team of 4 direct reports who between them have a wider team made up of Shift Managers, Planners, Analysts, Team Managers, Technicians, Process Support Operative Colleagues and Warehouse Operative Colleagues.

We are looking for a People Leader, an inspirer of Teams, an exceptional Communicator, someone who can recognise potential and who has a real passion for playing a part in driving our ambitious Inclusion & Diversity Agenda. This role will be instrumental in leading our colleague engagement workstream, driving leadership development at all levels through personal advocacy and intervention and delivering customer and colleague centric leadership principles.

From a delivery perspective you will use a detailed knowledge of site dynamics and process to engage with stakeholders across the business to influence working methods, driving morale and team building throughout. You’ll have responsibility for the overall direction, achievement, coordination and evaluation of the operation with full accountability for achieving targets in all areas of the operational teams including managing the Customer Failure Rate (CFR) to deliver target in pursuit of 100% delivery on time, every time.

Cost conscious, you will deliver effective processes and management to drive cost reductions whilst maintaining service requirements through a consistent every penny counts mindset at every level. In addition, you will engage with the planning and training functions to ensure the effective execution of the site operational plan, delivering a flexible multiskilled workforce that is able to respond as reasonably required to varied .com and retail demand.

You will do all of this whilst also continually ensuring a focus on core Health & Safety processes and procedures remain at the forefront of running a safe operation.

To succeed in this role, you will be a dynamic, inspirational leader who is able to create an inclusive and engaging culture who has experience of managing large 24/7 teams within an automated Ecom distribution facility ideally within a retail environment. You will be an analytical, strategic thinker with commercial awareness who has the ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels and work collaboratively with senior stakeholders to ensure that Operational capability is represented in their decision making.
