Summary

As Refrigeration Engineering Manager, you will take ownership of refrigeration specifications across our store estate, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, driving engineering innovation and delivering high-performing refrigeration solutions.

Working closely with Property, Store Design, Construction, Facilities Management and external partners, you will play a key role in shaping future refrigeration strategies, improving equipment performance and supporting new store concepts through technical excellence.

What You Will Do

  • Own and continuously develop refrigeration specifications, ensuring they meet business requirements, support Plan A and Carbon Net Zero commitments, and remain compliant with industry standards and regulations.
  • Partner with Store Design and key stakeholders to support the technical development of new store concepts and initiatives, ensuring solutions are delivered right first time.
  • Identify and lead engineering innovation opportunities that improve sustainability, energy efficiency, operational performance and refrigerant strategy delivery.
  • Review and analyse refrigeration equipment performance, identify root cause issues and develop short, medium and long-term improvement plans with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships across Construction, Facilities Management, Procurement, consultants and suppliers, providing technical guidance, carrying out technical reviews and supporting investment and category planning decisions.

  • A highly organised professional with strong planning, prioritisation and communication skills who can manage multiple activities effectively.
  • Customer-focused and commercially aware, balancing operational requirements, quality standards and cost considerations to achieve the best outcomes.

What You Will Bring

  • Recognised qualification in Refrigeration at degree level or equivalent.
  • Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration systems, including design, specification and maintenance requirements.
  • Experience in technical management across a multi-site environment, with proven success managing relationships with third-party suppliers, consultants and contractors.
  • Practical knowledge of refrigeration legislation, Health and Safety requirements, statutory compliance, F-Gas regulations and environmental standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational, budget management and communication skills, with the ability to maintain high standards whilst delivering against business objectives.
