How We Hire

Everyone is welcome at M&S. No exceptions. It’s your background, abilities and differences that make you, uniquely you. And when you’re part of M&S, that individuality has the potential to make waves.

About the role

This section tells you all you need to know about the position and its responsibilities, outlining everything we hope to see in a successful candidate.

Summary
A career-enhancing opportunity in Group Finance
All the details

We are undertaking a major transformation of M&S Finance, moving from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA and rethinking how our core finance processes operate. We are looking for an experienced Group Reporting leader to own the future design and delivery of Consolidation, Group Reporting and External Reporting.

Use your listed-group reporting experience to shape how M&S consolidates, reports and governs its financial information for the future. You will lead a critical workstream within our SAP S/4HANA transformation, combining deep Group Reporting expertise with genuine influence over process, technology and ways of working.

This role would suit a proven Group Reporting Senior Manager from a FTSE 250, FTSE 100 or similarly complex listed group who wants to apply their experience in a different way. Rather than running another reporting cycle, you will shape the processes, controls and technology that will support M&S Finance for years to come.

To stay close to customers, our support teams are in the office three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected.

What you'll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Lead the future design of Consolidation, Group Reporting and External Reporting within our SAP S/4HANA Finance Transformation, partnering closely with senior Group Finance leadership.
  • Drive key decisions across Group structures, consolidation processes, reporting outputs, governance and financial controls, ensuring alignment with both business and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as the bridge between Finance, Technology, Tax, Audit and Programme teams, translating complex reporting requirements into practical solutions and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate reporting processes, improving data quality, controls and efficiency across the Group.
  • Lead testing, deployment and adoption activities, supporting Finance teams through implementation, go-live and the first reporting cycles within the new environment.

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include:

  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience in Group Reporting, Consolidation or External Reporting.
  • Proven experience operating within a FTSE 100, FTSE 250 or similarly complex listed organisation, with deep knowledge of IFRS reporting and consolidation requirements.
  • Strong technical and commercial judgement, with the ability to turn complex accounting and reporting requirements into practical business solutions.
  • A track record of leading change, improving finance processes and influencing senior stakeholders across Finance, Audit and Technology functions.
  • A collaborative, resilient and delivery-focused leader who enjoys solving complex challenges and driving meaningful transformation.

What's in it for you?

Working at M&S means being part of something bigger, helping to deliver quality, value and service to millions of customers every day. We're inclusive, fast-moving and always evolving, with a strong sense of purpose and a focus on doing the right thing.

Here are just a few of the benefits that make working here even more rewarding:

  • 20% colleague discount on all M&S products and many third-party brands for you and someone in your household, available once you've completed your probation
  • Competitive holiday allowance with the option to buy more
  • Discretionary bonus schemes linked to your performance and ours
  • Strong pension and life assurance to help plan for the future
  • Tailored induction and training to support your development from day one
  • Exclusive perks and savings through our M&S Choices portal
  • Market-leading family policies, including parental, adoption and neonatal leave
  • 24/7 wellbeing support, including virtual GP access and mental health services
  • One paid volunteer day a year to support a cause that matters to you

Everyone's welcome

We are ambitious about the future of retail. We're disrupting, innovating and leading the industry into a more conscientious, inspiring digital era. We're transforming how we work together and offering our most exciting opportunities yet. We are committed to building diverse and representative teams where everyone can bring their whole selves to work and be at their best.

If you're a Group Reporting leader looking to combine technical expertise with the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy on a major transformation programme, we'd love to hear from you. The decisions you make in this role will influence how M&S reports and consolidates its financial information for years to come.

Being an in-person business

We're at our best when we're close to customers, and for many of us at M&S, that means working in store every day.

To stay close to customers, our support teams are in the office three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected. It also means we can solve problems as soon as they arise, learn and grow as a team, build trust, and get closer to our colleagues.
