Senior Software Engineer (ios engineer)

Job Description:

We are looking for a passionate Senior iOS Engineer to help design, develop and deploy software to millions of users -- primarily in the context of the 100% Swift M&S universal app. The successful candidate will be able to build high-quality, innovative and fully performant software in compliance with best practice coding standards and technical design. Helping to drive better working practices and become a valued member of the engineering department.

Key accountabilities and measures

  • Collaboratively solves problems and communicates status and decisions to both technical and business people
  • Persistent in the face of blockers; requires minimal direction and oversight
  • Show experience working on non-trivial applications in more than one language stack
  • Identifies risks and assumptions upfront and communicates Identifies, advocates how to deal with them
  • Expert level in multiple non-trivial libraries or frameworks which are being used within the team
  • Implementation of build pipelines and build scripts
  • Unit testing, integration testing, and acceptance testing as well as demonstrable experience using XCUITest
  • Strong system design skills. Must have experience designing non-trivial systems, composed of multiple discrete components, and understand the main challenges and bottlenecks when designing systems at internet scale
  • Know a wide array of software design patterns in-depth, expert understanding of algorithm and data structures, have multiple real-life examples of applying this knowledge
  • Drives engineering conversations. Always speaks with confidence and is seen as a thought leader by the team
  • Actively seeks to work with the wider technology organisation, engages in cross-functional engineering forums and displays genuine interest to learn more about the big picture of our platforms
  • Takes accountability for the technical quality of team’s output as a whole, both through code review and through continuous architectural and system design review of output generated as part of new feature development
  • Helps team to continuously improve by reviewing processes and practices
  • Participation in the recruitment process

Key skills

The successful candidate will love writing code especially in Swift, have a proven track record of shipping apps to the app store and most likely would have attended or watched many of this year’s WWDC videos already.

You should be comfortable with the following:

  • Helping to drive engineering sessions, and naturally put themselves forward for challenging tasks
  • Architecting large epic level features
  • Setting and following Swift coding standards and best practices
  • Understanding and working with multiple architectures and patterns (including. MVVM, Dependency Injection, Protocol Oriented Design)
  • Producing the appropriate level of documentation for a project
  • High level of engagement when architecting and developing new software. Constantly looking at challenging the status quo, and improving our platform
  • Takes responsibility of the team’s backlog as a whole
  • Choosing and implementing the appropriate level of testing
  • Naturally identifies colleagues in need, and provides a helping hand where needed
  • Challenging the status quo constructively
  • Proactively works with the product team, to fill out any gaps in a requirement
  • Takes responsibility of the team’s backlog as a whole
  • Resolving complex Git issues including with submodules

It would be a bonus if you have:

  • Used Fastlane or have general CI experience
  • Android experience
  • Advocate for TDD/BDD
  • Comfortable working in a data driven decision-making environment
  • Experience delivering accessible products
  • Participated in the iOS community online or elsewhere
  • Experience working in agile environments
  • Mentored junior developers
  • Retail industry experience
  • Design/UX experience
