Head of Finance, Group FP&A

Job Description:

The role reports to the Director of Group Finance and has significant exposure to the Group CFO and the Clothing and Home, Food and International FD’s. Other key stakeholders include investor relations, treasury and reward. Success in the role requires leading a team of four direct reports, in addition to building excellent relationships with the members of the business unit and functional teams.

Role includes:

• Delivery and group wide oversight of all forward-looking financial projections for the Group, covering forecasts, budgets and three-year strategic plans

• Providing support to the Board, CEO and CFO in relation to ad-hoc analysis and projects: including peer benchmarking; trend analysis; acquisitions; disposals; and external funding

• Responsible for recruiting and developing a leading-edge FP&A team with a strong commercial acumen and a deep business analysis skillset to provide effective challenge and guidance across the group. Requires a clear understanding of business performance, risks and opportunities to support delivery of half year and full year results and inform external guidance

• Forecasting and reporting all UK operating costs and tracking delivery of the cost optimisation initiative, critical to the group’s success

• Group-wide capital expenditure forecasting and tracking, including monitoring spend between growth and business as usual and challenging investment cases

• Providing financial insight to investor relations, treasury, reward (including Remuneration Committee support)

Key skills

• Commercial awareness. Strong interest in retail, with relevant industry experience a benefit (but not essential)

• Ability to adapt and change, and to implement new ideas through strong direction and leadership

• High quality accurate financial analysis, coupled with insight from understanding of business and experience

• Ability to engage confidently and credibly with senior stakeholders, including business unit Finance Directors and Group CFO

• Preparation of high-quality outputs, including Board and Operating committee materials, to the standard expected of a FTSE 100 business

• Ability to build strong working relationships, working collaboratively to deliver through others

• Qualified accountant with understanding of listed company environment, including role of investor relations, tax and treasury

• Strong organisational skills and flexible approach, comfortable working accurately at pace and with changing priorities

• Strong team player whilst comfortable to work independently and on own initiative

• Ability to lead and grow the team, building on existing talent
