The challenge

What’s your idea for the M&S Spring/Summer 2030 collection?

Think about the customers of 2030 and what’s going on in their world. Think about how clothing could play a part in making their everyday that little bit better – then put your ideas together and show us, making sure we know:

  • What it is.
  • Why does the customer of the future will love it?
  • Why M&S needs it?
  • How it can be produced and sold?

You can bring your answer to life however you want – because it’s more about the idea than anything else. So whether you want to describe it with helpful images from the internet, draw it with annotations or sketch it up on a computer, it’s really up to you.

Upload and submit your entry in one of the approved formats (Doc, Docx, Wpd, Txt, Rtf, Htm, Html, Pdf, Xls, Xlsx, Odt. Max file size is 1MB).

M&S is well known for essential, timeless clothing that fits our customers’ needs and the way they live their lives; fashion that doesn’t need ironing; sizing that matches real women’s curves; clothes that allow less able kids to dress themselves. It all boils down to design with a purpose. Now we need even more of it. Which is where you come in. So here’s your challenge…

What's wrong with retail?

Think of a recent in-store experience you’ve had – whether at M&S or anywhere else. What was it like? What do you think could have made it better? Could the store have been better laid out? Could the service have been improved? What would you have changed to keep customers coming back for more? Now take your ideas and tell us how we could create the perfect in-store experience for our customers, making sure we know:

  • The problem or problems that need a solution
  • How it needs to be solved
  • What, if any, technologies that could help
  • How it will help customers
  • What needs to happen to put it in place

You can bring your solution to life however you want – because it’s more about the idea than anything else. So whether you want to describe it with helpful images from the internet, draw it with annotations or write an essay, it’s really up to you.

Upload and submit your entry in one of the following formats (Doc, Docx, Wpd, Txt, Rtf, Htm, Html, Pdf, Xls, Xlsx, Odt. Max file size is 1MB).

Imagine yourself in 2030 – and M&S has announced a brand new strategy to capture the student retail market. What do we do to make it happen?

What are the behaviours of students? What do they want? How does M&S change its business to appeal to them?

This is your chance to really think big – so make the most of it. From pricing to stock to online to offline. We want your insight, analysis and solutions all put together in a proposal that tells us:

  • What students want from a shopping experience
  • How M&S should change its business to capture that market

You can bring your answer to life however you want. Either through a written piece, text and images, annotated pictures, or a presentation – whatever it takes to get it across and explain your brilliant concept.

Upload and submit your entry in one of the approved formats (Doc, Docx, Wpd, Txt, Rtf, Htm, Html, Pdf, Xls, Xlsx, Odt. Max file size is 1MB).

See the bigger picture? Able to think originally? M&S is evolving in how we work at every level. Like our new ‘Suggest to Steve’ programme, that lets colleagues pitch ideas to our CEO. But we’re still looking for spirited disruptors to share their visions and create strategies for the modern world. If this sounds like you, here is your challenge…
