Distribution is largely about getting our online customer orders ready for shipping – so products are where they need to be, when they need to be there. This requires focused, committed people to make it happen. Leading and motivating them is where you come in. As part of our Operations Management team, you’ll lead and engage your teams, driving their performance, sharing ideas about how to do things better; celebrating success and giving recognition. All the while, you’ll help to create a safe and inclusive culture that’s distinctly M&S.
Here’s some more detail around what each of these roles does – so you know where you’ll best fit in.
You’ll ensure all the resources we need are in place to deliver – whatever the need or change in demand. Monitoring productivity, planning resource and delivering coaching conversations will ensure our Operatives are performing at the right level and in the right place at the right time.
You’ll be proactive in your approach to delivery and enjoy using your initiative, especially if it means taking on additional responsibility. You’ll also be a self-starting multi-tasker who’s willing to develop and hungry to progress.
You’re a natural and inspiring people manager - leading a large team of operatives, giving them the support and development they need to deliver consistently high standards of performance and quality. You’ll ensure day-to-day processes in your department are well executed and all operational issues are in hand to meet and exceed our customer and business requirements.
By showing the right leadership behaviours and being visible, you’ll motivate everyone to perform at their best and deliver best in class service performance.
Lead Team Managers
Our Lead Team Managers will keep a close eye on our automated operations, setting clear direction and monitoring performance; making sure the right resources are in place to deliver for our online customers.
You’ll be an exceptional all-round manager. At home in a fast-moving automated environment, you’ll have rock-solid operational experience together with the commercial insight to get the job done, safely and on time. A strong people focus is essential too, as you lead, motivate and develop Team Managers to ensure every shift is as productive as possible, drive quality and best practice aligned to first class service performance.
Shift and Operations Management
Shift and Operations Management is all about getting our products to where they need to be, when they need to be there. It may sound straightforward but when you’re taking control of an entire chamber in our distribution operation its quite a responsibility. So you’ll need to be up for the challenge! You will set the direction of our operation; maximising performance, leading by example and having the resilience to cope with any change that comes your way. When there’s a change in demand, you’ll make sure we utilise the resources we have to meet the challenge accordingly.
Most of all though, it’s about people. You’ll help your teams recognise the value and significance of what they do – to our business, our customers and to their individual development and career goals. By motivating, training and developing your people, you’ll help them be their best, and give them the direction they need to establish a rewarding future.
Our Castle Donington site is fully mechanised including automated storage and retrieval systems, along with sophisticated warehouse control systems and warehouse management systems to guarantee delivery accuracy.
Of course, great technology is vital to our operations – but it wouldn’t amount to much without the right people there to monitor and control it.
This is where our Flow team comes into its own – a team of highly technical, systems orientated people. Together, they oversee everything from system availability and efficiency to managing work flows and potential maintenance issues that may cause downtime. Close liaison with the Shift Operations and Engineering teams are therefore essential.
